CRIMPIT
REVOLUTIONISING THE WRAP GAME
CONSUMER PRODUCT DESIGN
PROJECT BRIEF
Having seen viral success with their sandwich thin sealer, CRIMPiT approached Duku for assistance in broadening their product range into a solution that seals a variety of ingredients into tortilla wraps, creating a novel way to enjoy healthy snacking.

PROJECT PROPOSAL
Duku proposed a variety of ways in which the basis of the existing design could be translated into a wrap sealing solution. The vision was to create a cost effective, user-friendly, durable and versatile product that maintained the visual language and branding of the original CRIMPiT whilst securely sealing various types of wraps, preventing spills and messes and allow users to experiment with different fillings.
PRODUCT FEATURES
Perfectly Sealed Wraps: Ensures fillings are locked in, providing a mess-free eating experience.
Versatility: Suitable for creating burritos, calzones, enchiladas, kebabs, pasties, and more.
Ease of Use: Simple operation—place, fill, fold, and crimp.
Microwave and Dishwasher Safe: Crafted from food-safe polypropylene, making it both microwave and dishwasher friendly.

DEVELOPMENT PROCESS
Duku carried out a number of iterative prototype development steps to optimise the design prior to product manufacture, these included
Initially, Duku carried out concept development work to explore various design approaches and tooling strategies to ensure a cost effective solution. The team also explored opportunities for product modularity, optimised product sizing for efficient packaging and delivery, and investigated a range of opening mechanisms and teeth designs to achieve the best possible seal around the edges of the wrap.
The CAD Engineering process focused on refining the initial concepts into prototype ready CAD models that would allow prototypes to be created and product testing to be carried out. Of particular focus at this stage was balancing the functionality of the product with a cost effective manufacturing approach. A simple 2 part design with a hinged lid was developed, ensuring minimal tooling investment would be required and the unit price would be competitive.
Multiple prototypes were developed and tested to ensure optimal performance, with a focus on creating a reliable seal and ensuring the hinged lid operated smoothly and robustly. The device’s dimensions were optimised to accommodate a variety of wrap sizes. This iterative process, enabled by rapid in-house 3D printing, allowed for design improvements to be tested within hours—resulting in the consumption of many wraps along the way!
CRIMPiT had previously partnered with local UK manufacturers, so Duku prepared a comprehensive production specification and worked closely with the existing manufacturing teams to finalise the design for mass production. This included detailed analysis of injection moulding flow paths, gate positioning, material properties and final design refinements such as optimising part thickness, to ensure the product was fully suited for production runs exceeding 100,000 units.
PROJECT OUTCOME
Since its launch, the CRIMPiT Wrap Sealer has seen remarkable success. It is now stocked by major retailers, including Tesco, John Lewis, Robert Dyas, Lakeland, and Oliver Bonas. With over one million units sold and an “Excellent” Trustpilot rating based on more than 20,000 reviews, the product has built a strong reputation. A vibrant online community continues to share recipes and tips, while viral TikTok content and active social media campaigns have significantly boosted brand visibility and customer engagement.

WHAT HAPPENED NEXT?
Building on the Wrap Sealer's success, CRIMPiT has further expanded its product line and the company continues to innovate, exploring new product variations to enhance the home cooking experience.
