Wall Controller Casing
Our client Microtrol required assistance in developing an injection moulded casing for a touchscreen interface for an air conditioning control unit.
Initial concept development work focused on proposing solutions that would allow for a simple 2 part injection moulded casing. The brief called for a solution that kept the screen as flush to the casing as possible, and allowed the unit to be assembled quickly and efficiently with minimal fastenings.
CAD & PROTOTYPING
CAD Development and prototyping focused on ensuring a tight fit around the internal electronics and developing snap fit assembly features that meant the casing could be assembled without the use of screws. Numerous 3D prints were created to allow for fine adjustment on the fit of the casing around the PCB and touchscreen assembly.
Once prototypes had been approved, Duku developed a full manufacturing specification for the product and oversaw the manufacturing process from initial tooling approval, through to production samples and finally the delivery of the first production run. The product now forms part of Toshibas air conditioning range.
