Leading Innovation in Mobility Scooters

Quingo - Vision 45 Rear.png

Brief

Quingo are known for their class-leading mobility scooters that feature a unique, patented 5-wheel system that improves stability and comfort. Duku worked with Quingo to identify ways to modernise their range-topping models, incorporating new features and modern styling.

As experts in industrial and product design, Duku was tasked to create two new models that replace key products in their range.

Working with Quingo’s team, Duku proposed ways to improve the user experience and deliver a thoroughly modern redesign.

Proposal

With extensive industrial design experience from metal and plastic prototyping to electronic development, the Duku team was ideally placed to help with every stage of the product design and development process. The goal was to deliver a class leading design that would position Quingo at the forefront of their sector.

Key Features Developed

  • Colour screen: Clear display to boost safety and ease of use.

  • Reversing camera: To reduce effort and improve safety when reversing.

  • Dynamic Lighting: Utilising LED lighting to improve visibility and forward vision.

  • Dampened controls: Removing vibrations through the handlebars improving comfort.

  • Integrated heated handlebars: Improving comfort all year round.

  • Future-proofed electronics: Ensuring design can be updated and integrate new features.

Stages of Product Development

With the client’s brief in mind, Duku optimised the design and production process to maximise product performance:

1

User Centric Design

As part of the product development process, we focused on creating an ergonomic, user-centric design to deliver a positive experience for every user. Quingo scooter already lead the class in areas such as manoeuvrability and quality, we added features that added tangible benefits, such as a reversing camera to improve vision and reduce neck strain and a large, clear screen that gave all the key information at a glance. Plus, a patented dampening system in the handlebars that improved comfort over poor road surfaces.

2

Proof of Concept Prototyping and Testing

With a reversing camera, animated LED lighting and an innovative suspension system, Duku’s in-house prototyping facilities allowed the team to test and refine each innovation while ensuring production viability and compliance with industry standards.

Prototyping was completed in-house including validation and testing everything from the metal chassis, bespoke electronic design, injection moulded plastic casings and the performance of the full product to allow thorough testing.

3

Product Manufacturing and Production Services

Once the product design was approved, Duku provided manufacturing support to work with the manufacture through the final testing and validation process. This relation is key to ensuring the end solution meets the cleints specification, whilst ensuring production viability. Duku’s experience in DFM (Design for Manufacture) helped deliver the design to production readiness.

Outcome

Launched at the annual Rehacare show in Germany, Duku are supporting the project through to a launch in 2025, creating two new models for Quingo that will bring industry-leading features such as a full colour screen plus class-leading range, comfort and lighting.
